37-year-old man collapses, dies at TVK chief Vijay's rally in Tamil Nadu's Salem

SALEM: A 37-year-old guest worker from Maharashtra suddenly died during the Tamilaga Vettrik Kazhagam (TVK) executives meeting held near Seelanaickkanpatty in Salem city on Friday.The man, identified as Siraj, was from Sivasakthi Nagar, Seelanaickkanpatty. He came to Salem with his wife, son and daughter 20 years ago and had been living there.Annadhanapatty Police said Siraj, who made silver rings and also worked in construction, had been unwell for the past year and underwent heart surgery.“During the event, Siraj lay in front of the ground for a long time, fainted and fell down,” said the officer. He was taken by ambulance to Manima – a private hospital near Seelanaickkanpatty, where he was declared brought dead.Police from the Annadhanapatty station recovered the body and sent it to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The officer said, the cause of death would be ascertained only after the postmortem.A case was registered and were investigating.
