Sanjay Dutt surprised fans on Friday by announcing his upcoming film ‘Khalnayak Returns’. The project revisits the iconic 1993 film ‘Khalnayak’, which featured Dutt alongside Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. With the sequel arriving over three decades later, excitement among fans is high. At the poster launch event in Mumbai, Dutt credited Subhash Ghai for making the original film’s journey possible. He also shared that the idea for the sequel first came to him during his time in jail in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. Reflecting on that phase, he said he had asked fellow inmates if they would be interested in a sequel, and around 4,000 of them responded enthusiastically.

The actor shared, “The journey of ‘Khalnayak’ has been long and without Subhash ji it wouldn’t have been possible. He is a legend and a man of entertainment. He will be part of this ‘Khalnayak’.” He went on to reveal that the idea for the sequel came to him during his time in jail. “In jail, I asked everyone around me, who would be interested in watching it. And the 4,000 inmates said they all would. I asked all of them to write one page about it (new ‘Khalnayak’ story), and it took me a while to read all 4,000 pages. When I came out on parole, I asked Subhash sir to go through it. After that, he said it should be made”.

Meanwhile, Subhash Ghai shared that ‘Khalnayak Returns’ stems from Sanju and Manyata’s deep passion and long-held wish to bring the story back, expressing confidence that it will outshine the original film. He also added that he is always ready to extend his support whenever needed.

On April 24, Sanjay dropped the first look of ‘Khalnayak Returns’, sparking excitement among fans, with the iconic ‘Khal Nayak Hoon Main’ track playing in the background. Sharing the announcement, he wrote, “Kuch kahaani khatam nahi hoti… woh dobara shuru hoti hai. Khalnayak Returns.” Although the cast and release details are still being kept under wraps, the reveal has already brought back memories of the classic that remains deeply rooted in pop culture. Dutt also unveiled two posters featuring his look from the film, one showing him smoking with a fierce expression, and the other capturing a menacing smile.
