Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Sachivalaya Federation, a body of govt employees posted in the secretariat, wrote a letter to CM Bhupendra Patel, seeking introduction of a work-from-home (WFH) system in wake of PM Narendra Modi’s appeal for adopting austerity measures to save fuel.Federation president Kirti Patel and general secretary Hiren Patel said in the letter that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the state govt had successfully introduced the WFH system through virtual meetings and other digital platforms. The federation sought the introduction of the system in a phased manner, a five-day weekly work schedule, and increased use of the e-sarkar platform for governance.Sources said the state govt is expected to take a decision on the matter soon. They said the weekly cabinet meeting is scheduled for Friday afternoon, where the matter will be discussed before a decision is announced by the govt.In the letter, the secretariat employees’ federation has requested that the state govt issue the necessary rules and protocols for working from home, saying employees can report for duty on a rotational basis. The letter said that apart from saving on fuel, the step will also encourage digital governance, which the govt has been promoting.
