Expat daughters’ unanswered calls expose double murder in locked Ludhiana house. | Ludhiana News
Ludhiana: An elderly couple was found bludgeoned to death inside their locked home in this city, a grim discovery sparked when their overseas daughters grew alarmed by unanswered phone calls. The bodies of Kuldeep Singh, 70, and his wife, Harmeet Kaur, 69, lay in their Janata Nagar bedroom on Saturday. The advanced state of decomposition indicates the couple was murdered at least 24 hours before discovery. The alarm was raised by the couple’s four daughters, who all reside abroad. Concerned when their routine calls went unanswered, they contacted local relatives to check the property.“The main gate was bolted from the inside, and nobody answered our knocking,” said Davinder Singh, the victim’s brother-in-law. “When we noticed a foul odour, we called the police.”Officers bypassed the locked front gate, breaching the property through a back door to find the dead couple. Investigators believe the victims were struck in the face and head repeatedly with a blunt weapon while asleep in their bed, noting there were no signs of a struggle.Additional deputy commissioner of police Karanveer Singh said detectives suspected the killers were known to the couple and familiar with the layout of the property.“The main gate was secured from within, suggesting the attackers entered through either a back door or a window,” the ADCP said. “Several suspects have already been captured and identified on local CCTV footage, and our teams are tracking them.”While the murders’ motive remains unclear, police confirm that nothing was stolen from the house.Kuldeep Singh ran a furnace factory before retiring four years ago. Neighbours noted the couple had lived quietly in the area since losing their only son in a road accident two decades ago.A case of murder has been registered at the Division Number 6 police station.
