BADLAPUR: A woman and a cab driver were found dead inside a parked car in Badlapur (East) on Thursday afternoon, with police suspecting that the woman was murdered before the driver allegedly died by suicide. The case came to light after the woman’s four-year-old son reportedly alerted relatives about his mother’s death.According to police, the woman had been living in the Juweli area of Badlapur for the past three months, while the male victim, identified as Ganesh Shinde, was a resident of Ghatkopar in Mumbai. Both bodies were found inside a car, bearing injuries suspected to have been caused by a sharp weapon. The incident came to light when the four-year-old child, who was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, stepped out of the car and approached relatives staying nearby. The child allegedly told them that his mother was dead and led them to the vehicle. On reaching the spot, the relatives found the bodies of the woman and Shinde inside the car and alerted the Badlapur (East) police.Police teams rushed to the spot and conducted a panchnama, while a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team collected evidence from the scene. Senior officers later visited the area to review the investigation, while the vehicle was seized for further examination by forensic experts.Investigators said preliminary findings suggest that the child may have witnessed the attack. “Based on the child’s initial statement, it appears that Shinde attacked and killed the woman in front of him. This has led us to suspect that the accused may have later inflicted injuries on himself, resulting in his death. However, we are not completely certain about the circumstances of Shinde’s death and are investigating all possibilities,” deputy commissioner of police Sachin Gore told TOI.Police said the woman’s relatives were unfamiliar with Shinde and could not explain his connection with the victim. Investigators have contacted Shinde’s family and are trying to establish the nature of the relationship between the two deceased individuals.Officers are also examining call records and other digital evidence to determine the events leading up to the incident.Officials said statements of relatives from both families will be recorded as part of the investigation.
