Increased Vigilance: 57 Check Posts Set Up at Jharkhand-Bihar Border for Upcoming Elections

Ranchi: Vigil along the inter-state borders would be further increased from Sunday with the setting up of additional check posts in view of Bihar state assembly elections and the Ghatshila assembly bypoll in Jharkhand on November 11.Jharkhand police have set up 43 check posts in 10 districts — Hazaribag, Garhwa, Chatra, Giridih, Godda, Palamu, Koderma, Deoghar, Sahibganj, and Dumka — which share their borders with eight districts of Bihar.Moreover, 10 check posts are operational on borders with West Bengal and Odisha in view of Ghatshila assembly bypoll. The check posts are set up in Ghatshila bordering Mayurbhanj in Odisha and Jhargram and Purulia in West Bengal.Inspector general and state police nodal officer for the elections, Michael Raj, said, “The number of check posts on Jharkhand-Bihar border would be increased to 57 from Sunday. The check posts on the Jharkhand-West Bengal-Odisha borders would go up by 13.”“The check posts functional were on the routes regularly used by the people. The new check posts would be set up on roads which have low traffic also. The focus is on fully curbing illegal movement of cash, liquor, narcotics, election freebies and criminals between borders,” he added.The check posts would be manned by magistrates, excise and forest department officials besides police.
