‘Scrubs’ revival after 16 years: Who’s returning and who’s missing from the original cast – details
After 16 long years, the hit comedy series ‘Scrubs’ is getting a revival, premiering on February 25. The series follows the personal and professional lives of Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian (Zach Braff) and his friends at Sacred Heart Hospital as they navigate their careers from interns to experienced doctors. Now with its long-awaited comeback, fans are curious to know which of their favorites from the show are returning.
Who is returning from the original cast?
The revival will have original stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison back as series regulars, reprising their roles as J.D., Elliot, and Turk, respectively. Two other key OG cast members, Judy Reyes (Carla) and John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox), are also in the nine-episode revival. In an interview with Deadline, they revealed that Reyes is in four episodes, while McGinley is in three episodes of season 10.
Who else is there from the OG cast?
Among those set for guest appearances are ‘Scrubs’ alums Neil Flynn and Christa Miller, who will reprise their series regular/recurring roles as the Janitor and Jordan, respectively. Jordan will be seen with longtime partner Perry Cox.
‘Scrubs’: Who is not returning?
Missing from the list is original cast member Ken Jenkins, who played Bob Kelso in all nine seasons. Jenkins, 85, who retired from acting years ago, is not in Season 1 of the revival but will be in Season 2 if the series is renewed, said ‘Scrubs’ creator Bill Lawrence. “Dr. Kelso will be back next year,” Lawrence said. “It just didn’t work out this year, but it will next year.”
Where does the revival season start?
Showrunner Lawrence also stated that the revival picks up as if the original series ended with the Season 8 finale, disregarding the events in the spinoff-style Season 9.When the original Scrubs ended its run in 2010, newly married J.D. and Elliot were expecting their first child, a daughter, while Carla and Turk had two daughters. Life didn’t stop while the show was off, and the revival picks up 16 years later with more kids in the picture. Carla and Turk now have four children, while J.D. and Elliot share two!The first two episodes of Scrubs Season 10 are scheduled to debut on ABC on February 25, 2026.
