KTC plans new head office, bus stands set for revamp | Goa News
Panaji: The Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) is set to undertake major redevelopment works, including the construction of a new head office in Porvorim and the modernisation of major bus stands across Goa.KTC managing director, Rohan Kaskar, said the corporation proposed a new head office building in Porvorim, where it owns a sizeable parcel of land. “The current head office, functioning from seven flats purchased from the Housing Board in 2003, is in use since 2004,” he added. The proposed head office project was handed over to the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), which initiated the process of appointing a technical consultancy agency.“Tenders were already floated for the selection of this agency. Once appointed, the consultant is expected to visit the site, review KTC’s requirements, and present a design proposal to the corporation’s board within one month. Following board approval, GSIDC will invite construction tenders,” Kaskar told TOI.KTC earmarked Rs 16 crore in the current financial year for the head office project. KTC also plans to install CCTV cameras across its offices, depots, workshops and bus stands. Cameras will also be fitted inside buses.“All surveillance systems will be integrated into a centralised command centre. This federated system will enable officials to monitor activities in real time and respond swiftly to complaints. For instance, if a complaint is received from a passenger, authorities will be able to directly access live or recorded footage from the concerned bus,” said KTC General Manager, Mahendra Pednekar. The redevelopment of major bus stands is being spearheaded by the state transport department, which owns the facilities. Once upgraded, the bus stands will be handed over to KTC for operations.“Tenders were already issued for the redevelopment of bus stands at Margao and Mapusa. The Margao bus stand, in particular, is in a dilapidated condition and is expected to see significant improvements within the next one to two years. At the Panaji bus stand, plans are underway for complete redevelopment, though tendering is still in progress. Work is expected to commence once the necessary approvals and funding clearances are in place,” Pednekar said.In addition, KTC plans to redevelop its old Porvorim depot, which was constructed in the 1980s and is currently in poor condition.
