Amitabh Bachchan instead of Paresh Rawal? Priyadarshan wanted to cast Big B in ‘Hungama’ but THIS stopped him

Just like the rest of the world, filmmaker Priyadarshan is a huge fan of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The veteran director recently opened up about his long-time wish to work with the legendary actor in a comedy film.

Priyadarshan is a huge Amitabh Bachchan fan

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Priyadarshan said, “See my biggest dream because I was a huge Amitabh Bachchan fan. I have fallen down from buying ticket to see films like Kasauti and all those movies and Deewar and all these films and I don’t think that I have ever been a fan of anybody more than Amitabh Bachchan in my whole life. Even today. I always wanted to make a film.”

Priyadarshan had Big B in mind for ‘Hungama’

Priyadarshan revealed that while planning his hit comedy ‘Hungama’, he had Amitabh Bachchan in mind for the role that eventually went to Paresh Rawal.“So, once I was planning to make ‘Hungama’, I was thinking to approach Amit ji for the role of Paresh Rawal in that, he would have done magic. Of course Paresh did well. But then he (Amitabh) fell sick, he was not well, so I was forced to take Paresh,” the ‘Hera Pheri’ director explained.

Priyadarshan made multiple attempts for suitable script

The ‘Garam Masala’ director added that he has tried several times to develop a script that would perfectly suit Bachchan’s talent. He explained, “Then so many times I was trying to make a script which suits him (Amitabh). And I think I have cracked something, I’m not sure whether it will happen or not. Now I’m making my last attempt to go to him with the script. But at the same time, that will be the only wish I have.”

Working with Amitabh remains his only dream

When asked about other projects on his wishlist, the ‘Bhagam Bhag’ director made it clear that directing Amitabh Bachchan is the only dream left in his career. “I don’t know whether it will, it’s left in my life, to make one film with Amitabh Bachchan, because I was a huge fan. I’ve never been a fan of anybody else in my life,” he said.

He praised Bachchan’s unique comic timing

The ‘Chup Chup Ke’ director also spoke about Bachchan’s unmatched ability to deliver humour with a straight face. He revealed that he had never seen better comedy on screen and added that Amitabh Bachchan has great talent and range, with the way he delivers jokes without changing his expression is really impressive.
