BENGALURU: A 45-year-old woman who had been undergoing treatment after being stabbed by her nephew and his associates died in the early hours of Sunday, prompting police to upgrade the case from attempt to murder to murder.The deceased, Mageshwari, was a resident of Adugodi. Police have arrested four persons in connection with the incident: Manikiran, his father Manivannan and his associates Maniraj alias Stephan and Abhishek.According to Adugodi police, the attack stemmed from a family dispute. Manikiran was married to Charulata, the daughter of Mageshwari’s elder sister. Following marital discord, Charulata had returned to her parental home and was staying with her grandmother and Mageshwari.Police said Manikiran had made several attempts to persuade her to return, but she refused. He then allegedly went to Mageshwari’s house along with his father and friends in an attempt to take Charulata back with them. When Mageshwari intervened, the group assaulted her with an iron rod. Manikiran and his associates then stabbed her multiple times on the thigh before forcibly taking Charulata away.Mageshwari was initially admitted to St John’s Hospital, where doctors said she was out of danger. However, her family later shifted her to Victoria Hospital and then to another hospital due to financial constraints. Her condition deteriorated over the following days, and she died around 3am Sunday.Police said all four accused, who work as labourers, are in the Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara. Based on the death, the case will now be treated as murder.
