Investigators in Utah have recovered the weapon used to kill conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the FBI confirmed on Thursday, while police said the suspected shooter “appears to be of college age” and was able to blend in with students on campus before escaping.Robert Bohls, the FBI’s special agent in charge, told reporters the firearm was a high-powered rifle discovered in a wooded area near Utah Valley University, where Kirk was gunned down on Wednesday afternoon. “The rifle has been secured and is being processed for forensic evidence,” Bohls said.Police added that the suspect’s ability to blend in with the college population initially complicated efforts to identify him. “The individual appeared to be of college age,” a police spokesperson said, noting the manhunt remains ongoing. The shooting has shaken Washington and the conservative movement, where Kirk, 30, was a rising figure. He founded Turning Point USA, a youth-oriented political organization closely aligned with President Donald Trump. Both Trump and Vice President JD Vance released emotional tributes following his death, with Vance calling Kirk “a brother” and urging prayers for his family.Authorities have not released further details on the suspect’s identity or motive, but urged vigilance in the community. “We are working tirelessly to track this individual down,” Bohls said.
