NEW DELHI: Classmates of 16year-old Shourya Patil, a Class X student of St Columba’s School who died by suicide on Nov 18, have claimed that he informed the school counsellor of suicidal thoughts weeks before his death, but the concern was dismissed as a “joke” and never shared with his parents.His friends, joined by his relatives, friends of his father’s gold-trading fraternity, and fellow students and parents, gathered at Jantar Mantar as part of the protest against Patil’s alleged harassment that entered its fourth day on Saturday.

Protesters lit candles, placed flowers around Patil’s photograph adorned with a garland and held placards demanding justice.His maternal uncle said the protest might be shifted to the residence of the accused teachers from Monday.A Class X student alleged that one of the accused teachers would often use Patil as an example of under-performing students. A student, however, also said the entire school should not be blamed.The deceased had written in his suicide note about sustained humiliation by four teachers, who have since been suspended.
