'Dhurandhar 2' Vs 'Toxic' clash: Sanjay Gupta feels both the films will eat into each other's business, gets reminded of 'Kaabil', 'Raees' clash, Huma Qureshi is optimistic

The clash between ‘Dhurandhar 2’, headlined by Ranveer Singh, and Toxic, starring Yash, has been generating buzz for months. It’s been the talk of the town for a while now. Both the big-ticket releases are slated to hit cinemas on March 19 during the Eid weekend, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated clashes of the year.Actor Huma Qureshi, who plays a pivotal role in ‘Toxic’, recently shared her thoughts on the face-off. “No matter what I say, I think whichever way I look at it, it is a win for the Indian film industry and it’s going to be great for the audiences. It’s a win-win, the way I look at it and I think it’s going to be like just a fantastic time for movie-going audiences, and there is space for everyone to do well,” she said in an interview with Variety India. Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, however, offered a more cautious perspective. Drawing from his own experience, he said, “I will watch both the films, but, unfortunately, both are coming together, because they’re so highly awaited. And they will just eat into each other’s business,” he told the same publication. Referring to his 2017 release Kaabil, which clashed with Raees, Gupta elaborated, “It’s like when my movie Kaabil released with Raees. Both films would have benefited if they had been released individually and not clashed. Because we have to take into account that we are not a super-rich country, and our people don’t have money flowing that they can just go and watch two films back-to-back. There are many people who can’t watch two films in one month. It’s unnecessary, but again, the makers probably have their reasons.” While he believes both upcoming films will perform well, he suggested that neither may fully realize its standalone box office potential due to the clash.Dhurandhar 2 is directed by Aditya Dhar. The film continues the story from ‘Dhurandhar’ and concludes the two-part franchise.Meanwhile, ‘Toxic’ is written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas, with Mohandas also directing the project. Shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, the film will be dubbed into multiple Indian languages. Alongside Yash and Huma Qureshi, the cast includes Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and Tara Sutaria in key roles.
