India-German ties: Piyush Goyal meets top business leaders in Berlin; strengthening trade on agenda

Union commerce and industry minister, Piyush Goyal held a series of meetings with top business leaders in Germany to strengthen trade and business cooperation between the two countries.The minister is on an official visit to Berlin from October 23, aimed at deepening India’s economic engagement with Germany.

In a post on X, Goyal said he met Klaus Rosenfeld, CEO of Schaeffler AG, to discuss collaborations across the automotive, artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced manufacturing sectors.They also explored India’s growth opportunities and ways to strengthen the India-Germany partnership in innovation and industry.Goyal also met Martin Herrenknecht, the founder and CEO of Herrenknecht AG, to talk about the growth plans of the company in India and its foray into the infrastructure space through improved local operations and technology partnerships.With Tobias Bischof-Niemz, Member of the Management Board of ENERTRAG, Goyal discussed possibilities in India’s clean energy transition, renewable energy, and sustainable development goals.During another meeting, Goyal met with Michael Masur, CEO of the Vehicle Mobility Solutions Division, RENK GmbH, to explore investment opportunities within India’s defence industry and collaboration in the areas of engineering, digitisation and intelligence solutions.He also had a meeting with Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon Technologies AG, to examine possible cooperation in the semiconductor and decarbonisation fields.The meeting also featured Ola Kallenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group, to meet and discuss the operations of the company and growth strategies in India with a focus on innovation and green growth in the automotive space.During his visit, Goyal also met HE Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg’s deputy prime minister and minister for foreign affairs, trade and cooperation, to discuss how to further enhance trade relations between India and Luxembourg.The visit comes as the India-Germany Strategic Partnership celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025, a milestone in bilateral relations.The visits are to enable high-impact dialogue with top officials, industry heads and business groups in both nations.
