Interpol issues red corner notice to arrest Shubham Jaiswal from UAE

Varanasi: Possibility rose of early arrest of fugitive codeine syrup smuggling syndicate kingpin Shubham Jaiswal from Dubai, UAE on Thursday when Interpol issued red corner notice in this regard.Confirming the development, DCP Varuna zone Pramod Kumar expressed hope that Shubham Jaiswal will be arrested soon as per provisions of red corner notice and extradited to begin his trial here.Apart from investigators of Kotwali, Rohaniya and Sarnath police stations, where cases in connection with codeine syrup smuggling are lodged, a special investigation team is also probing the multi-thousand-crore codeine syrup scam. In all three cases lodged at these police stations, Shubham, who managed to leave India on Nov 5, 2025, from Kolkata to take shelter in Dubai, is declared fugitive by the court.In the case registered by Rohaniya police under sections of the NDPS Act, all necessary proceedings, including filing a charge sheet before the court, were completed by Feb 12. When Shubham did not appear before the court, the process of declaring him fugitive was completed. The investigators initiated the process of issuance of red corner notice by Interpol through CBI, which acts to facilitate as India’s National Central Bureau, to arrest Shubham for extradition. And, their bid resulted in issuance of red corner notice, said the DCP.Since beginning of action against Shubham and his syndicate members in Nov 2025 and with the progress in investigation, police arrested a total of 30 accused, including his father Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, and seized property worth approximately Rs 45 crore. Further progress in investigation against Shubham’s syndicate has now exposed the spread of its roots in hawala, liquor and other trades across several states.
