According to his family members, the accident took place around 1.30am on Dec 6. Chandra Prakash had just finished preparing food for a wedding function when he received a call that his autorickshaw carrying catering tools had broken down. He and the catering team went to the location and were standing next to the auto as it was being repaired. The Endeavour, HR-98-2863, came hurtling down the wrong side and hit the four men – Chandra Prakash, Jogendra, Yogendra and Vishal – who had little time to react and dodge. Sachin, the brother-in-law of Chandra Prakash, told TOI, “His ribs were fractured and he also suffered serious head injuries. The SUV driver was driving rashly. It was not foggy that night.”All four were taken to Civil Hospital in Sector 10. Due to the severity of his injuries, Chandra Prakash was later shifted to a private hospital, where he remained in critical care. Police said the family did not initially lodge a complaint as the SUV owner had assured them of covering medical expenses and a compromise was reached. However, following Chandra Prakash’s, his son Bobby decided to approach police for legal action.Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Sector 9A police station under sections 281 (rash driving), 125A (acts done rashly or negligently endangering life or personal safety), and 106 (causing death due to negligence) of BNS. A police officer said, “We have the vehicle number and will soon trace the person who was behind the steering, causing this fatal accident.”Chandra Prakash is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters. With the wrong side driving emerging as one of the leading causes of accidents in the city, Gurgaon police had on Friday announced that FIRs will be registered against drivers found moving against the direction of traffic on highways and major arterial roads. More than 2 lakh vehicles were fined for wrong-side driving on Gurgaon roads in 2025.
