VARANASI: Dispute over direction of desert cooler snowballed into a violent clash in which one person was killed, while four others suffered serious injuries during a wedding party in the Indira Nagar area under Jiyanpur police station limits in Azamgarh district on Tuesday night. The wedding ceremony was called off.Azamgarh ASP (Rural) Chirag Jain said that Amir Chandra Sahani, 26, died during the clash, while four injured persons were rushed to a hospital. Police said some persons involved in the clash were held for questioning after a case was registered on the complaint of the family of the deceased.To avoid the recurrence of any untoward incident, the police force remained deployed in the area and carried out raids to arrest those accused of attacking Sahani.According to reports, before the ‘jaimal’ ritual could be performed, a dispute occurred between some invitees from the groom’s relatives and the bride’s side over the direction of the cooler’s air. Both sides attacked each other and a stampede-like scene ensued.Sahani died on the spot in the attack, while Rajkumar Sahani, Abhilash Sahani and Sahil Yadav, all from the groom’s side, suffered serious injuries. On receiving information, CO Sagdi and Jiyanpur police reached the spot.
