Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the most established names in the Rajasthan Royals set-up, even if his journey in recent times has taken an unexpected turn in terms of visibility and impact.Once viewed as the next big batting superstar of Indian cricket, Jaiswal has already made a strong mark across formats, particularly in Tests, where he has cemented his place as a long-term opener for India. Despite that, his opportunities in the white-ball formats have been inconsistent. He did score a century in his most recent ODI appearance against South Africa last year, but was not included in the latest ODI squad for the series against Afghanistan.Jaiswal was also part of India’s 2024 World Cup-winning squad, although he did not feature in T20Is around that period. With Test cricket taking priority at the time, he was rested from the shortest format. In his absence, players like Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson stepped up strongly and went on to establish themselves as regular T20 openers for India, pushing Jaiswal down the pecking order. At franchise level, his role has also come under the spotlight. Now in his seventh IPL season with Rajasthan Royals, he has often been expected to lead the batting charge. However, much of the attention this season has shifted towards his opening partner, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young sensation who has rapidly become one of the most talked-about names in the league. While Jaiswal has scored 426 runs from 15 matches, Suryavanshi has gone even further with 680 runs and counting, along with a surge in popularity that has drawn comparisons with established superstars of the game. The contrast has only intensified the narrative around Jaiswal’s standing within the team.Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu believes Jaiswal may benefit from a change of environment. According to him, the young opener has found himself overshadowed and may need a fresh start to fully express his potential.“He needs to change his team. Because he cannot just bat with the guy and be overshadowed every single time. He’s a star in his own right. If he goes to another team, he will win matches on his own. He needs that space and that platform. Because this guy will keep overshadowing people, it has to be a senior partner alongside him who can deal with it and be happy for him. Be happy for what is happening and not compete with the non-striker,” he said on ESPNCricinfo.

Which team would be the best fit for Yashasvi Jaiswal if he leaves Rajasthan Royals?

The discussion has naturally led to speculation about where Jaiswal could go next if he were to leave Rajasthan Royals. Rayudu believes the most logical destination would be Mumbai Indians. With Rohit Sharma approaching the final phase of his IPL career, MI could soon be planning for a long-term Indian top-order option.“Mumbai Indians is a good team for Jaiswal,” he said.Rayudu also pointed out that Mumbai is not unfamiliar territory for Jaiswal, having come through the domestic circuit across formats, including the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The fit appears natural from both a cricketing and developmental standpoint.
