CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who led the party from the front, described the victory as a historic moment.“For the first time, the 100-mark has been breached by an incumbent alliance in the state. Barring just one winner, all its other 18 winners are Muslims. Even its ally Rajor Dal’s one winner is from the same community while its other allies AJP, Left and All Party hill Leaders’ Conference drew blank. On the other hand, the delimitation demolished Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF that brought down its 2021 tally of 15 to just two.BJP’s new partner in NDA, BPF won 10 of the 15 seats in Bodo heartland while the former NDA partner of 2021, UPPL, which was dumped by BJP this time drew a blank. Also read| Assembly elections result: INDIA footprint fades on Bharat map as allies stumble in WB, TNThe scale of the BJP’s dominance saw its vote share shoot up by over 5% to reach close to 39%, which is its biggest share so far after finishing at 33% in 2021 and 29.5% in 2011.Sarma attributed Congress’ dismal performance to two factors, one for dragging Zubeen Garg’s name in campaigning and other attacking the daughters of Assam, when Pawan Khera made the allegations against his wife.“I thank Pawan Khera for his media conference where he did not attack me, but the daughters of Assam and that made people of Assam very emotional. Had Gaurav Gogoi not been present at that press conference, probably he might have won,” Sarma quipped.Sarma also added, “Zubeen Garg was never an issue in this election but Congress tried to politicise his name by mentioning him in their manifesto People have punished them for politicising Zubeen Garg’s death.”Congress media team chairman Bedabrata Bora said, “We are surprised at the results, but we accept them as the people’s mandate.”
