Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan sends congratulations message to Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, says ‘It was my honor to place upon him…’

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan has publicly displayed unity with its Silicon Valley rival, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at Carnegie Mellon University, as they celebrated both a personal milestone and a major business alliance. Tan was on hand to personally place the doctoral hood upon Huang, who was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Science and Technology for his pioneering work in accelerated computing and artificial intelligence (AI). “Congratulations to my good friend Jensen Huang on being awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Science and Technology from @CarnegieMellon University for his outstanding contributions to accelerated computing and Artificial Intelligence. It was my honor to place upon him his doctoral hood this morning,” Tan said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Tan confirms Intel-Nvidia partnership

However, the celebration wasn’t just about academics; Tan used the moment to confirm that the blockbuster partnership between Intel and Nvidia is ‘full steam ahead’, saying, “Intel and Nvidia are collaborating to develop exciting new products!”This makes its significant because the two companies often compete for dominance in the chip market but they have spent the last eight months quietly working on a “historic” collaboration. Tan reminded the industry that the two giants are currently co-developing a new generation of products for data centers, servers, and consumer PCs.PCMag reports that Intel and Nvidia may team up to put RTX graphics directly into Intel PC chips; Nvidia also invested $5 billion in Intel via a stock buy. Reports have also claimed that Intel and Nvidia are expected to develop integrated third-party graphics for x86 SOCs which may be codenamed “Serpent Lake.”
