Mohammad Nawaz has come under serious scrutiny after testing positive for recreational drug use during the 2026 T20 World Cup, triggering an official investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board.According to ESPNcricinfo, the positive result emerged from routine testing conducted during the world cup earlier this year. Nawaz, 32, featured in all seven matches for Pakistan in Sri Lanka, where the team was eliminated at the Super Eight stage. He had a modest outing, scoring 15 runs and picking up seven wickets.PCB Initiates Due ProcessThe PCB has confirmed that it has been formally informed of the development by the International Cricket Council and has begun its internal procedures.A PCB spokesperson said on on Wednesday as quoted by ESPNcricinfo: “The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about this matter, and PCB has begun the due process. The results of this process will be communicated to the ICC today.”Career and Immediate ImpactNawaz, who has played 98 T20 Internationals for Pakistan, now faces uncertainty at a crucial stage of his career. The all-rounder has been a regular presence in Pakistan’s white-ball setup, valued for his left-arm spin and lower-order batting. The controversy has already impacted his franchise commitments. Nawaz was set to join Surrey County Cricket Club for the upcoming T20 Blast after receiving a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the PCB. However, the deal has now reportedly fallen through, and he will no longer feature for the club this summer.PSL Participation ContinuesDespite the ongoing investigation, Nawaz has continued to play in the Pakistan Super League, representing Multan Sultans.
