NEW DELHI: Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich produced one of the greatest Champions League semi-finals ever as PSG edged Bayern 5-4 in a thrilling first leg in Paris on Tuesday. The match became the highest-scoring semi-final in Champions League history, with both sides attacking relentlessly from start to finish. Harry Kane opened the scoring for Bayern from the penalty spot before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia equalised with a brilliant solo effort.Joao Neves then headed PSG in front, but Michael Olise quickly made it 2-2. PSG regained the lead before halftime through a penalty converted by Ousmane Dembele. The second half continued at the same crazy pace. Kvaratskhelia scored again after a quick PSG counterattack, while Dembele added another to make it 5-2 and put the French champions in complete control.Kvaratskhelia was once again the standout performer for PSG, continuing his incredible Champions League form this season.“I’m sure everyone who loves football really enjoyed watching that. It was a real pleasure to play in that game, the kind of game we dream of playing in as kids,” PSG captain Marquinhos said after the match.

Bayern fight back

Despite trailing heavily, Bayern refused to give up. Dayot Upamecano pulled one back with a header before Luis Diaz scored Bayern’s fourth goal to keep the tie alive ahead of next week’s return leg in Munich.“We fought and we clawed and we’re back in the tie,” Kane said. The winner over two legs will advance to the Champions League final in Budapest later this month.
