LUCKNOW: A violent assault on a local Samajwadi Party (SP) woman leader in Chandauli has triggered political reactions after the victim alleged that she was brutally attacked inside her home by the family members of her long-time business associate and claimed that a larger political conspiracy may have been behind the incident.The victim, Gargi Singh Patel, district president of the SP Mahila Morcha, is currently undergoing treatment at the District Hospital after suffering multiple fractures and serious injuries in the alleged attack that took place at her residence in Madiya Padav under the Mughalsarai police station area on May 28.According to the FIR lodged by Gargi Singh, she was at home around 9 am when Pyare Mama, a resident of Sujabad Padav and her alleged partner in the land business for nearly 15 years, arrived at her residence. About ten minutes later, she alleged, his wife Urmila Yadav, sons Amit Yadav and Manoj Yadav, and daughter Moni Yadav entered her house and launched a brutal assault.In her complaint, Singh alleged that the accused attacked her with iron rods, sticks and lathis with the intention of killing her. She claimed that she was dragged by her hair, repeatedly beaten and left seriously injured. She further alleged that the accused snatched her gold chain with a locket, earrings and a nose pin during the assault.The complainant also stated that two minor girls present in the house, identified as Pratigya Singh and Pragati Singh, were allegedly beaten during the incident.CCTV Footage Captured Entire Incident, Claims VictimSingh told police that the entire episode was recorded on CCTV cameras installed at her residence. Following the attack, she was taken to the government hospital in Mughalsarai. However, due to the severity of her injuries, doctors later referred her to Pandit Kamalapati Tripathi Government Hospital in Chandauli for advanced treatment.According to the FIR, medical examinations revealed multiple fractures and serious injuries on different parts of her body. She remains under treatment.The SP leader has also alleged that the assault may have been linked to political rivalry.In her complaint, Singh claimed that approximately a week before the incident she had visited her party office in Lucknow, where Siddhant Jaiswal son of Shivram Jaiswal and a resident of Ramnagar in Varanasi, allegedly threatened her. She alleged that he warned her that she would be “finished” and prevented from progressing politically.Based on the alleged threat, Singh expressed suspicion that the attack was carried out as part of a conspiracy to damage her political image and eliminate her. She urged police to investigate the possible role of Siddhant Jaiswal in the incident.Police have registered a case on the basis of her complaint and initiated an investigation. Officers are expected to examine CCTV footage, medical reports and witness statements as part of the probe.BJP Leader Visits Hospital, Seeks Strict ActionThe incident took a political turn on Friday when former BJP district president Rana Pratap Singh visited the district hospital and met the injured SP Mahila Morcha leader.During his visit, Rana Pratap Singh enquired about Gargi Singh Patel’s health and expressed concern over the attack. He demanded strict legal action against those responsible and urged police officials to ensure their immediate arrest.The BJP leader claimed that the persons involved in the assault were associated with the Samajwadi Party and accused the opposition party of pursuing politics that tolerated atrocities against women.“Regardless of her political affiliation, Gargi Singh Patel is first and foremost a woman. What happened to her is extremely shameful,” he said while speaking to reporters at the hospital.Rana Pratap Singh further asserted that the BJP government would not tolerate atrocities against women under any circumstances. He assured the victim that both the government and the administration would take the matter seriously and ensure that justice is delivered.Police officials have not yet commented on the political allegations raised by either side. Investigators are currently focusing on the assault allegations, medical evidence and CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events.The case has attracted attention not only because of the severity of the alleged attack but also due to the victim’s political profile and claims of a conspiracy behind the incident. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.SP, Chandauli, Akash Patel said that one of the named accused has been arrested.
