Sunil Narine etched his name deeper into Indian Premier League history on Saturday after becoming the first overseas cricketer and the 13th player overall to complete 200 IPL appearances. The milestone came during Kolkata Knight Riders’ clash against Gujarat Titans, with KKR desperately fighting to stay alive in the IPL 2026 playoff race. GT won the toss and opted to bowl first, while KKR also welcomed back mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy from injury. Narine’s IPL journey began back in 2012 when he made his debut for KKR against Rajasthan Royals. Over the last 14 seasons, the West Indies all-rounder has transformed into one of the league’s most impactful and versatile players, playing a major role in KKR’s success across different eras. Primarily known for revolutionising T20 spin bowling with his mystery variations, Narine has claimed 203 wickets in 200 matches at a stunning economy rate of 6.79, making him one of the most economical bowlers in IPL history. Even in an era increasingly dominated by aggressive batting, Narine has continued to maintain control with the ball. The 2026 season has been another reminder of his value. In a tournament where scores above 200 have become increasingly common, Narine has picked up 11 wickets while conceding runs at an economy of just 6.64 — numbers that stand out sharply in a batting-heavy season. Beyond his bowling exploits, Narine has also reinvented himself as a dangerous power-hitter at the top of the order in recent years. Across his IPL career, he has scored 1820 runs at a blistering strike rate of 165.30 and an average of 17.33, often providing KKR explosive starts in the powerplay. While KKR have struggled this season and currently sit eighth on the points table with only four wins from 11 matches, Narine’s landmark appearance adds another historic chapter to one of the league’s most unique careers. The three-time champions now face a must-win situation in their final three league matches after their recent defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru significantly damaged their playoff hopes.
