CHENNAI: Police registered three separate cases against Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay and party functionaries at West Mambalam, Nungambakkam and Vepery police stations for conducting roadshows in violation of election permission norms during campaigning in the city.The cases were filed based on complaints from election observers and flying squad officials, who stated that the campaign events breached the conditions imposed under the Model Code of Conduct.At West Mambalam, the Mambalam police registered a case against Vijay, T Nagar Assembly constituency candidate N Anand, and South Chennai district office-bearer Appunu. The complaint, filed by Flying Squad Officer Santhosh Kumar, stated that the group conducted a roadshow instead of the permitted meeting, exceeded the approved gathering limit, and caused obstruction to traffic and the public. A case was booked under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and other relevant provisions for disobeying lawful orders of a public servant.In a separate incident, the Nungambakkam police registered a case against Vijay and Thousand Lights constituency candidate JCT Prabhakaran for conducting a roadshow near Valluvar Kottam without permission. The police cited violation of campaign regulations and public nuisance.Similarly, the Vepery police registered a case against Vijay and Egmore constituency candidate Rajmohan for organising a roadshow in their jurisdiction in violation of election guidelines.Officials said permission had been granted for campaign activities subject to specific conditions, including limits on crowd size, prohibition of roadshows, and ensuring that public movement was not disrupted. The cases were registered after these conditions were found to have been violated. Further investigation is under way.
