Evanna Howell, a senior staff member at 23XI Racing, has been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR after her arrest tied to an alleged incident at Charlotte Motor Speedway. NASCAR confirmed the suspension in its weekly penalty report released on May 27. According to WBTV, the suspension was listed as a “behavioral” issue while the legal process continues. Court records from Cabarrus County show that Evanna Howell, 35, was arrested on May 23 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury. Police said the incident happened Sunday afternoon around 1:45 p.m. at Charlotte Motor Speedway during race weekend activities.According to a Concord Police report cited by WBTV, a 77-year-old man was allegedly struck by a golf cart and suffered a severe cut. Officials have not shared what happened before the incident or how the golf cart allegedly hit the man. Authorities have also not released more details about the investigation so far. WCNC reported that Howell was booked into Cabarrus County jail and later released on May 26 after posting a $125,000 bond. Court records show she is expected back in court on June 16.NASCAR later confirmed in its post-race penalty report after the Coca-Cola 600 that Howell had been suspended indefinitely “pending the legal process,” according to Motorsport.com. The suspension quickly drew attention because Howell worked for one of NASCAR’s most high-profile teams.

The NASCAR team is co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and veteran driver Denny Hamlin. During her time with the organization, Howell handled sponsorship and client-related work for the growing racing team.Before joining 23XI Racing, Howell built her career across several sports and entertainment companies. The Org reported that she previously worked as a Business Intelligence Manager at Loud And Live and as a Project Manager at Feld Entertainment.Her background also includes work with the Charlotte Hornets and the Jacksonville Jaguars, where she focused on sales programs and client management. Along with her professional experience, Howell also has a strong academic background.According to The Org, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from Winston-Salem State University. She later completed two master’s degrees from the University of Central Florida, including one in Sport Business Management and another in Business Administration.Right now, NASCAR has not shared any additional statement beyond the suspension notice.
