YouTube down in US: Company gives ‘final update’, explains what caused the outage
Thousands of YouTube users in the US and other countries worldwide faced problems accessing the video platform. The outage impacted YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV with Downdetector reporting more than 2,40,000 reports at the peak in the US. In India, around 17,000 reports were registered. YouTube was quick to acknowledge the down time. Sharing a post on X, the Google-owned video platform said: “If you’re having trouble accessing YouTube right now, you’re not alone — our teams are looking into this …”. “We’re also seeing a small number of reports that some people are unable to login to YouTube TV. This is related to the broader issue across YouTube, and we’re also working on a fix here,” an update from the company read.YouTube has now shared a ‘final update’ on the video outage where it says that all platforms are back to normal. “Final Update: The issue with our recommendations system has been resolved and all of our platforms (YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV) are back to normal! We really appreciate you bearing with us while we sorted this out,” reads a Google support page.
What caused YouTube outage
As explained by Google, an issue with the recommendations system prevented videos from appearing on YouTube. The outage affected the home page, YouTube app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids. As per social media posts, YouTube users reported problems with video playback failure, login and account access issues and streaming interruptions on YouTube TV.“An issue with our recommendations system prevented videos from appearing across surfaces on YouTube (including the homepage, the YouTube app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids),” the company wrote.
