Zach Cregger reveals what the easter egg was in ‘Resident Evil’ trailer

While talking to IGN, he revealed a fun and simple easter egg to pay homage to the popular video game series that inspired the movie. He revealed it was an essential item from the video game that gives players health points.Detailing the matter, he stated, “There’s a plant, screen left, over his right shoulder, you can kind of see it. In the movie, the shot pulls out further and you can see it [better]. I took the green herb from Resident Evil 4, and I replicated the bucket exactly, you can see the bucket there at the very end of that shot with the horizontal copper striping on it and the herb is exact for Resident Evil 4.”Regarding why he included the plant as a reference, he clarified and expressed his excitement about making the film. He added, “Even though this probably lives in the world of [Resident Evil 2], I just wanted to use a little bit of 4 in here just because it’s my favorite. And I have some other items from 4 scattered around in this movie that people will notice.”Giving more details about the film, Cregger further added that it will be based on the first day of the outbreak in Raccoon City. It will also show the characters moving from one location to another, much like in the video games to remain as authentic as possible.

Which scene is Zach Cregger talking about?

Specifically, Cregger planted the pot in the scene where Austin Abrams’ character, Bryan, is speaking on a telephone. If you pause the video, you can catch a glimpse of the plant in the upper left corner of the frame for just a few seconds. It references ‘Resident Evil 4,’ where similar herbs appear throughout the game and help the character restore health and energy.
