Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday.The interaction marked their first public meeting in more than ten years.According to India Today, the meeting was held at Seva Teerth in the national capital and reportedly lasted around 25 minutes. Vijay’s visit came only weeks after he assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Vijay raises key Tamil Nadu issues
During the meeting, Vijay reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister highlighting several important issues connected to Tamil Nadu.According to reports, the memorandum included concerns related to the Vande Mataram controversy, the Mekedatu project dispute, defence-related projects, and the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.One of the key issues raised by Vijay was the ongoing debate over singing Vande Mataram during official government events. Reports stated that Vijay urged the Prime Minister to direct the Union Home Ministry to allow the Tamil Nadu state anthem to be sung before Vande Mataram at official functions.
Guard of honour at Tamil Nadu house
After concluding the meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Vijay arrived at Tamil Nadu House in Delhi.The Chief Minister received a ceremonial guard of honour during the visit. It was his first official visit to the national capital since taking charge earlier this month.Social media users reacted strongly to Vijay’s meeting with the Prime Minister and his reception in Delhi. One user commented, “As far as I am concerned, he will be the best CM of the country.” Another social media user wrote, “@actorvijay congratulations my capital city new delhi welcome ” A third comment described Vijay as “Dashing cm”.
Suresh Gopi urges public to give Vijay time
Meanwhile, actor and Union Minister Suresh Gopi once again reacted to Vijay’s rise in politics. Speaking to reporters, Suresh Gopi said people should allow Vijay enough time to prove his abilities as an administrator before criticising him.He said, “Let Chief Minister Vijay work. Let him work and prove himself. It would not be right to criticise him before that. People have given him a chance. Let him do a good job.”During the same interaction, Suresh Gopi was also asked about discussions surrounding Vijay’s political movement expanding into Kerala.Responding to the question, the Union Minister welcomed wider political participation and said he had no objection to Vijay’s party entering Kerala politics.Suresh Gopi remarked, “What is the problem if the Tamil Nadu party which achieved victory starts in Kerala? If he is coming, let him come. Let him come anywhere (Kerala) he wants, let him start. Let everyone come and benefit the world and the Tamil people.”
